Hovnan is 5 years old child living with his family as Iraqi refugees in Syria. The child has complex bilateral congenital muscular abnormalities of the eye. He has been subjected to several surgeries for both eyes in a staged manner with the help of some humanitarian agencies in Syria. He was left with vertical squint of his right eye for which surgical intervention was recommended.

The Medical Relief Project of the Assyrian Medical Society has approved the funding for the surgery (20,000 SL) which was successfully performed on September 14, 2009.
